Friday I went to my critique group meeting and got feedback on my young adult novel, FACT OF LIFE #31. As usual, the group had a lively discussion, varying from “it’s practically perfect in every way” to “you had three or four climaxes and this, this, and this weren’t working for me.” I came away with a lot of good ideas about how to make it better. It’s funny how, even after all these years or writing, of getting and giving feedback, I still make basic mistakes. Like at the end of this book, I have the mother helping the main character make a choice. A few of my writing buddies pointed out that it would be much stronger if the main character decided for herself what to do. Well, DUH. That’s Writing 101.
I’m always learning, and relearning, to be a better writer. I love it. I love my group.
